The Reds have reportedly been monitoring the 23-year-old for over a year. He impressed with a series of fine performances in Italy’s European Under-21 Championship campaign, though the Azzurri exited at the group stage. Tottenham, Torino and Fiorentina are also rumoured to be interested in the defender, who scored three goals in 29 appearances for Atalanta last season. Newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport claims Liverpool have made a bid for Zappacosta.Did you know?1) He began his career at six years of age for hometown club Sora as a forward.2) He joined Atalanta in 2011 but spent the next three seasons on loan at Serie B outfit Avellino, where he moved to the wing and later his preferred full-back position before rejoining his parent club, signing a four-year contract in June 2014.3) He scored his first senior Atalanta goal in January 2015, finding the net to seal a 2-2 draw with Serie A rivals Genoa.4) He scored another goal in their 1-1 draw with Chievo and later netted again against Fiorentina, though it could not stop his side slumping to a 3-2 defeat.
