Man City XI with Stones: Is this how Guardiola’s team will look v Sunderland?

first_img Centre-back: Nicolas Otamendi – The Argentine is nursing a knock but if there is any chance he will be fit then Guardiola will name him in his side. Right wing: Raheem Sterling – After a tough year, the English youngster will be looking to prove the doubters wrong. He could get off to a good start by traumatising the Sunderland defence. Especially as new rival Leroy Sane has a knock. Right-back: Pablo Zabaleta – With Bacary Sagna playing at Euro 2016, it’s likely Pep Guardiola may favour the Argentine for the opening match. Central midfield: Fernandinho – A key player for the Citizens it would be surprising to see the Brazilian not start the opening game of the season. 11 11 11 11 Centre-back: John Stones – The new signing has been heavily involved in pre-season for the Toffees, he should slot in straight away with Manchester City. Left-back: Gael Clichy – As Aleksandar Kolarov moved into a central role, the Frenchman started in this role against Arsenal so he could get the nod again against Sunderland. Manchester City have finally completed the signing of Everton defender John Stones. The transfer was rumoured about for most of the summer and now, in slightly strange circumstances, has been confirmed. It was an important deal to get done given how Man City appear to be lacking at the back with Eliaquim Mangala out of favour under Pep Guardiola and Vincent Kompany injured. So, as we assume Stones will go straight into the Citizens team, how will they line up in their first game of the season against Sunderland?Click the right arrow above to find out… 11 11 11 Central midfield: Fabian Delph – A willing student, the ex-Aston Villa and Leeds United midfielder may just become teacher’s pet this season. Left wing: Nolito – A smart signing by Pep Guardiola, the Spaniard will be a big threat which could see Sergio Aguero get even more room up top. Attacking midfield: David Silva – With Kevin De Bruyne on his way back to fitness after Euro 2016, Silva will get his chance to shine in the opening match but knows the Belgian will likely usurp him quickly. Goalkeeper: Joe Hart – Click the right arrow above to see who makes our predicted XI… – The currently error-prone goalkeeper holds onto his place but must know his time is short if he makes another boo-boo. Striker: Sergio Aguero – No contest for the time being. Aguero is the starting centre forward but watch out for Kelechi Iheanacho off the bench. 11 11 11 11last_img read more
