Underrate Etoile at Your Peril, Ikhana Warns Enyimba

first_imgCAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUEShooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Head Coach, Kadiri Ikhana, has said that Nigerian champions, Enyimba will be knocked out of this season’s CAF Champions League today if they underrate their Tunisian opponents, Etoile Sportive du Sahel.Enyimba go into today’s second leg, second round clash with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg which saw the competition’s top scorer, Mfon Udoh weigh in with a hat-trick. The People’s Elephant will progress to the group stage of the competition if they avoid a four-goal margin defeat to the Diables Rouges (Red Devils) at Stade Olympique de Sousse, Sousse starting at 6pm Nigerian time.“It will be dangerous for Enyimba if they think they have qualified for the group stage because they beat Etoile 3-0 in the first leg.“I spoke to some members of the Enyimba technical crew and explained to them that it is not over (against Etoile).“North African teams can easily turn around even a four-goal deficit and as such, 3-0 against Etoile is not really such a big deal,” Ikhana told experienced trainer, who led Enyimba to their first CAF Champions League title in 2003, also warned that the weather conditions in Sousse this evening could be an important factor in the eventual outcome of the game. The temperature in Sousse is expected to drop to 16 degrees on Wednesday evening when the game will kick off.“At this time of the year, the weather in Sousse is quite cold, especially when you compare it with what you have in Nigeria now.“The Enyimba players should approach the game as though they did not score even a single goal in the first leg. This Etoile team can actually score six goals at home.“However, I am confident in this Enyimba team. They have players who can get the job done.“If they play with the right attitude, I am sure they will get as far as the final of this year’s CAF Champions League,” he concluded.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegramlast_img read more

Dodgers head to Mexico to face Padres in May 2018

first_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error Anthopoulos takes over a Braves’ front office that is awaiting the outcome of an MLB investigation into violations involving international signings. John Coppolella resigned as GM due to the investigation and the Braves are expected to receive some form of punishment for the violations.Anthopoulos’ departure is the latest in a series of subtractions from the Dodgers’ front office. Director of player development Gabe Kapler left to become manager of the Philadelphia Phillies and his top assistant, Jeremy Zoll, took a job with the Twins. Four years after opening the regular season in Australia, the Dodgers will be going south of the border again in 2018 – but not nearly as far south this time.MLB officially announced Monday that the Dodgers and San Diego Padres will play a three-game regular season series May 4-6 in Monterrey, Mexico. The games were originally scheduled as home games for the Padres and they will be the home team for the games at Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey. The games will be the third MLB regular-season series played in Monterrey. The Padres have been part of all three, including a season-opening series against the Colorado Rockies in April 1999.The Dodgers have played spring exhibition games in Mexico City (in 1964 against Diablos Rojos and 2003 against the New York Mets) and Monterrey (in 1991 against the Milwaukee Brewers) in addition to their season-opening series in Australia against the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.center_img “The Dodgers are excited and extremely proud to be returning to Mexico as a team for the fourth time in our history,” Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten said in a statement announcing the series. “These games will also mark the first time that the Dodgers are playing regular-season contests in Mexico, something long overdue given our rich player history and strong community ties to the country. The Dodgers have always been at the forefront of growing the game of baseball internationally and this trip reinforces this commitment while at the same time giving our many fans in Mexico a chance to see us compete.”The Dodgers- Padres series is the first of six series MLB plans to play in Mexico over the next four seasons. In addition, there are preliminary plans to also play games in Asia and the United Kingdom over the next few years. The Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins are scheduled to play in Puerto Rico April 17-18, 2018 at Hiram Bithorn Stadium which hosted the Montreal Expos for stretches of the 2003 and 2004 seasons (including a series against the Angels) and a Mets-Marlins series in June 2010. The stadium was damaged during Hurricane Maria in September but is expected to be repaired sufficiently to host the series next spring.FRONT OFFICEThere is another opening in the Dodgers’ front office after Alex Anthopoulos was named the Atlanta Braves’ new executive vice president and general manager Monday. The senior vice president of baseball operations and GM of the Toronto Blue Jays from 2010-15, Anthopoulos spent the past two years in the Dodgers’ front office as executive vice president of baseball operations (one of six former GMs in the Dodgers’ front office)last_img read more

Can Mason Rudolph Make Bedlam History With His Second Win In Norman?

first_imgWhen we look back at the Oklahoma State quarterbacks who have beaten the Sooners, the list is predictably short. One name that does appear on that list is current Cowboy, Mason Rudolph. But if Rudolph leads the Cowboys to a victory on Saturday, he won’t be the first OSU quarterback with multiple Bedlam wins (although he would be the first to do it twice in Norman).Let’s look at the Oklahoma State quarterbacks that have been able to get multiple wins against the Sooners, in the modern era. (Bob Fenimore played halfback but led the team in passing both years as the Cowboys won Bedlam in 1944 and 1945.)Tony Lindsay1997: That last time Oklahoma State was favored in Norman was back in 1997. The Cowboys were led by the eventual Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year, Tony Lindsay. Lindsay went 9 for 16 for 129 yards and two touchdowns, including a 40-yard touchdown pass to R.W. McQuarters.Cowboys won in Norman 30-7.1998: As a redshirt-sophomore, Lindsay had an impressive four-touchdown outing at home.Going 16 of 24 for 138 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions, Lindsay also had a huge game on the ground. He rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns, just shy of this fourth career 100-yard rushing game.Cowboys win at home 41-26, completing the first pair of back-to-back Bedlam wins in 30-plus years.Lindsay’s Bedlam record as a starter: 2-1Josh Fields2001: In one of the most dramatic games in OSU history, the heavy 27-point underdog Cowboys were led by true freshman Josh Fields.Okay, so technically Fields didn’t start this game. He came in after early after Aso Pogi went 2 for 9 with two interceptions and was “the guy” from there on out.Fields went 19 for 38 for 231 yards with one touchdown and one interception. But that one touchdown was a memorable one. “The catch” in the back of the end zone solidified Fields and all-time leading receiver Rashaun Woods in OSU lore.OSU won 16-13 in Norman.2002: Fields had one of the best games of his career going a super efficient 18 of 27 for 357 yards and four touchdowns. Rashaun Woods had 134 yards and two touchdowns and Tatum Bell added 106 on the ground.Cowboys win in Stillwater 38-28.Fields’ Bedlam record as a starter: 1-1 (but we’re counting him as 2-1)Mason RudolphSo were does that leave Rudolph?2014: The record-setting junior first endeared himself to Cowboy fans when he led his 21-point underdog team to a 38-35 nail-biting win in Norman.Rudolph went 19 of 35 for 273 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, looking stellar for a true freshman in just his second start.Oklahoma had pushed the lead back to 14 when, late in the fourth quarter, Rudolph hit Brandon Sheperd on back-to-back plays. A 14-yard pass followed by a 43-yard touchdown pass not only brought the Cowboys within a score with less than five minutes remaining, but made me believe Sheperd would go All-Big 12 his senior season. You probably know the rest of that story. Bob Stoops decided to re-punt and Tyreek Hill went house setting up the game-winning field goal in overtime by Ben Grogan. Not only did Rudolph beat Oklahoma, he reignited an offense that had been mostly inept the first ten games of the season.2015: Rudolph didn’t start the game due to an injury he sustained the week before against Baylor. He was unceremoniously trotted out for one series in lieu of J.W. Walsh with little chance of success. OSU’s coaching staff basically told Mike Stoops, “We’re going deep here.”. The result was an interception and some head scratching by all who watched. But this year Rudolph is healthy and for once in his career appears to have the running game needed to help his prolific passing attack flourish. If the Cowboys can pull it off this weekend, Rudolph will be the second OSU quarterback to win multiple starts and the first to win twice in Norman.Rudolph’s Bedlam record as a starter: 1-0 (and counting)If you’re looking for the comments section, it has moved to our forum, The Chamber. Minister promises Grand Turk fire unit next budget year

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Related Items:#GrandTurkfireunit, #GTresidentsputoutfire, #magneticmedianews Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppTurks and Caicos, July 19, 2017 – Grand Turk – Residents of Grand Turk were praised highly for their community effort, which along with the airport’s fire truck eventually saw a house blaze extinguished last Thursday.   The residents had to ban together to contain a fire without the help of proper fire-fighting equipment because the fire was threatening a second home. The airport’s fire crew was unable to leave the JAGS McCartney international Airport because flights were on the ground; there is no domestic fire service in Grand Turk.   The first home was gutted by the flames and it again raises the issue that despite huge financial overflows, the Turks and Caicos Islands Government continues to not invest in a domestic fire unit for the Capital of the country.Grand Turk is also where thousands of tourists visit via cruise ship on any given day and is home to the seat of Government, including Parliament and the Governor’s residence, Waterloo.    Still, Home Affairs Minister, Delroy Williams expressed in a media statement sadness at the loss for the Missick family and explained again, that the domestic fire unit will not come until the next fiscal year.“My Government is deeply concerned about the frequency at which fires are occurring and have committed to ensuring that resources are available to provide domestic fire services on the island of Grand Turk during the next budget cycle.”There have been three fires so far this year in Grand Turk, including the complete loss of over 200 year old Victoria Public Library.  The cause of the Misick house fire is unknown, the Fire Department and Police Force are investigating.#MagneticMediaNews#GrandTurkfireunit#GTresidentsputoutfirelast_img read more

first_imgArt Indus brings to the IAF two important and serious of practitioners of art – the first is the legendary sculptor and mentor Rajinder Tiku and the second is Neeraj Bakshi. Both artists are deeply introspective and contemplative individuals who have been practicing for at least four decades. Tiku is both sculptor and thinker and he plays with the idea of metaphors in the medium of materiality. According to him art needs to be understood and internalised as an attitude that helps us to imbibe tradition and effort to transcend it to build a new psychological makeup. When he had his show at Threshold in Delhi he said: “Looking at this phenomenon from the point of view of human perception also, one understands that a society’s grasp of its part becomes a source of creativity in the present. It stimulates all forms of contemporary expression, allowing the meaning to seep through images, shapes and a plethora of the other cultural activities. While looking at this phenomenon of past and present as a continuum, where lines of distinction between historical memories and personal experiences blur (if not disappear), we realise an eternal source which energises us to flow on to be a part and parcel of the same.” Also Read – Add new books to your shelfBased broadly on this understanding, Tiku has been trying to bring out a tangible form, the seemingly intangible aspect of the silent and sacred embedded in our civilizational life and tradition – you can see this message in his works that translate the idea of the shrine. Inspired by shapes of objects ranging from mundane ones located in our immediate surroundings, to the visual grandeur of monuments located in the trajectory of the timelessness, Tiku’s brilliance lies in his ability to create in stone images that have been perceived from a quantum of images and symbols that usher technical, intellectual and philosophical human endeavours into realm of the universal. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveNeeraj Bakshi’s hand is one of stealth and serene minimalism. Travel and experience have shaped his understanding – a few years ago Bakshi travelled to Africa and toured the forests in the east of the continent. His entire perspective changed. This was reflected in his work, and the watercolours breathed both beauty and substance in the idea of living. They reflect his concern with humans and the surroundings they share. These watercolours at Art Indus are fresh and have a transparency that makes them look as if they radiate a soft light. His figures mirror a definite international influence, as he spends time soaking rich artistic and architectural heritage of the places he visits. While the works look gentle there is also great pain, his works are associated with ritual iconography, but they are put together in the context of the everyday living. Bakshi buttresses deep environmental concerns with a sensitive balance of line and colour, which gives his work the ambience of a lighter prism. The inbuilt tenor of pathos and pain both add to the realm of solitary creation within his own orbit of compositional clarity.(The above mentioned story is part of the series on India Art Fair 2018, which will be carried till the fair ends.)last_img read more

Original Apple Computer Could Fetch 600000 at Upcoming Auction

first_img A fully operational Apple computer that company co-founder Steve Jobs sold out of his parents’ garage in 1976 for $600 will hit the auction block in December, where it is expected to fetch more than half a million dollars, Christie’s said on Monday. The so-called Ricketts Apple-1 Personal Computer, named after its original owner Charles Ricketts and being sold on Dec. 11, is the only known surviving Apple-1 documented as having been sold directly by Jobs, then just 21, to an individual from the Los Altos, California family home, Christie’s said.”It all started with the Apple-1 and with this particular machine,” said Andrew McVinish, Christie’s director of decorative arts.”When you see a child playing with an iPad or iPhone, not too many people know that it all started with the Apple-1,” he added. “So to be able to own a machine that started the digital revolution is a very powerful attraction.”The computer is being sold by Robert Luther, a Virginia collector who bought it in 2004 at a police auction of storage locker goods without knowing all the details of its history.”I knew it had been sold from the garage of Steve Jobs in July of 1976, because I had the buyer’s canceled check,” Luther wrote on a kickstarter page soliciting funding for a book on the machine’s history.”My computer had been purchased directly from Jobs, and based on the buyers address on the check, he lived four miles from Jobs.”In 1999, the Ricketts Apple-1 was acquired by Bruce Waldack, an entrepreneur who had just sold his company, DigitalNation. Waldack eventually lost his fortune, left the country and died in 2007. The Ricketts Apple-1 was auctioned at a self-storage facility in Virginia, where Luther purchased it.An Apple-1 expert serviced and started the computer, running the standard original software program, Microsoft BASIC, and an original Apple-1 Star Trek game to test it out, Christie’s said. The computer will be sold with the canceled check from the original garage purchase on July 27, 1976 made out to Apple Computer by Charles Ricketts for $600, which Ricketts later labeled as “Purchased July 1976 from Steve Jobs in his parents’ garage in Los Altos”.A second canceled check for $193 from Aug. 5, 1976 is labeled “Software NA Programmed by Steve Jobs August 1976.” The checks were used as evidence for the city of Los Altos to designate the Jobs family home on Crist Drive for eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.Last month, the Henry Ford organization paid $905,000 at auction for one of the few remaining Apple-1 computers, which was more than twice the pre-sale estimate.Fewer than 50 original Apple-1s are believed to be in existence of the few hundred originally produced.(Editing by Patricia Reaney, Bernard Orr) Growing a business sometimes requires thinking outside the box.
