Kariyawasam said he spoke with Maheswaran over her speech and she had responded by saying that she had made the speech after being emotionally taken back by the recent murder of the six year old girl.Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera said that Maheswaran must be removed from Parliament for making a statement which looks to divide the country. United National Party General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the United National Party did not agree with the statement made by Maheswaran. Jayasuriya later launched an investigation into the speech made by Maheswaran and sought the Attorney General’s advice to see if the Constitution had been violated through the speech. Parliament was forced to be adjourned till tomorrow after a tense situation arose today over a recent speech made by United National Party Parliamentarian and State Minister of Child Affairs Vijayakala Maheswaran.Maheswaran had reportedly said that the LTTE needs to be back in order to ensure incidents like that of the recent murder of a child in Jaffna does not take place. United National Party Parliamentarian S.M Marikkar slammed the State Minister for making such a speech saying she had violated the Constitution in the process.
