MIAMI, FL – APRIL 13: Tate Martell #18 of the Miami Hurricanes warms up before the annual Spring Game at Nathaniel Traz-Powell Stadium on April 13, 2019 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Mark Brown/Getty Images)On the day Miami head coach Manny Diaz officially named Jarren Williams the starting quarterback, Tate Martell did not practice, according to a new report.247Sports Miami insider Andrew Ivins reported that Martell did not participate in Monday’s practice. Just hours earlier, Diaz announced that Williams, a redshirt freshman, had beaten out Martell and sophomore N’Kosi Perry and would start the season opener against Florida on August 24.“All three guys showed tremendous improvement and development, which is a credit to their hard work and the work of Dan Enos and his offensive staff,” Diaz said. “We believe we can win with all three guys, however, we feel like Jarren has the greatest upside due to his passing ability, his instincts and his determination.”Diaz added that he would continue to evaluate who would be the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Williams. Nothing is official yet though, so no one is sure what his next move will be.Stay tuned.
