Vine/Dan LyonsOklahoma’s Buddy Hield is this year’s Big 12 Player of the Year, and for good reason. The junior shooting guard does everything for the Sooners, and in tonight’s Round of 32 game against Dayton, that includes making a crucial block on a fast break lay-up attempt that could have cut the Oklahoma lead to two points. Dayton guard Darrell Davis stole the ball from OU’s Jordan Woodard, and immediately took off for the hoop. As he released the ball, Hield made a fantastic play to reject the shot out of his hand. Instead of a two-point game, Oklahoma was fouled and extended the lead.Oklahoma finished the game with a 72-66 win, and will face Michigan State in the Sweet 16 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY.

Around 300 Calgary cab drivers have signed a letter to the city, asking for ride sharing companies to be subject to the same rules and regulations as taxis. The petition says more and more cab drivers are being forced to give up on mortgage payments and file for bankruptcy as they struggle to make ends meet.Taxi driver Syed Hussain said one example is vehicle inspections: taxis must go in every six months, but for Uber drivers, it’s once every year.“When we renew our taxi badge, we pay $175, the Uber guys they pay $15,” he said.Hussain said added costs mean taxi drivers often work 12 hours a day, seven days a week.“We have over 2,000 drivers and they are suffering unbelievably,” he said.“There are double standards. Two laws: one for the tax industry and one for the sharing companies like Uber or Lyft or whatever, and that is not fair.”Meanwhile Clement Gulston, who drives for both ride-sharing companies Uber and Cowboy Taxi, argues he pays just as much as a taxi driver, maybe even more, as 25 per cent of fares go to the company to cover costs.“Their (taxi) system is outdated. Checker has apps, do you know that? Associated has (an) app, do you know that? Calgary City Cab has app? Have you ever tried to use their app, have you ever talked to anybody who tried to use their app? If you use any one of these apps, you’re not connected instantly with the driver,” he said.Gulston says he works for two companies driving four cars, not because he needs the money, but because he’s taking advantage of good opportunities. Should rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft) face the same regulations as cab drivers?YesNoVoteView Results Take Our Poll
London: Vincent Kompany has hailed Manchester City teammate Raheem Sterling as one of the best players in the world after his 13-minute hat-trick in the 3-1 win against Watford. The victory at the Etihad on Saturday took the defending champions four points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table but Jurgen Klopp’s men closed the gap to a single point on Sunday. There was an offside debate over Sterling’s first goal and his second was a tap-in but his third highlighted his skill as he weaved into the area, cut back and fired past Ben Foster. Also Read – Dhoni, Paes spotted playing football together “It’s incredible because his first year at City was tough, and then from the moment Pep (Guardiola) came in he just kicked on and went from strength to strength,” said City captain Kompany. “For me, he is one of the best wingers in the world. He’s so important for us. To have the ability to unlock defences when they defend with so many bodies is the sign of a top, top, top player.” Sterling’s strikes shifted what had been a frustrating game decisively in City’s favour. As in their two previous games, the score was 0-0 at half-time and City, despite dominating possession, needed to work hard for openings. Also Read – Andy Murray to make Grand Slam return at Australian Open “These kind of games are much trickier than what people can see from the outside,” said Kompany, who has featured in City’s past five games. “It’s mentally demanding because it puts you to sleep that you have so much possession and are bouncing against the same wall.” City boss Pep Guardiola was more measured in his praise for Sterling, 24, who has now scored 20 goals for club and country this season. “He scored three goals, we’re delighted, but he can do better,” said Guardiola. “The first half was not the best performance from him, but it’s good when not playing at the top level to be consistent and score the three goals.” Guardiola hailed midfielder Ilkay Gundogan as an “incredible player in all senses” but again expressed concern over the German’s contract situation. The 28-year-old has not been an automatic starter under Guardiola and has just one season remaining on his present deal. Guardiola said: “I would prefer him to stay but at the same time I want to feel he wants to stay too. If he doesn’t want to stay, he has to leave.”

The presence of senior tackle Don Matheney is far less intimidating than his 6-foot, 300-pound frame initially suggests. Instead, Matheney is soft-spoken and undeniably optimistic. Before he enrolled at Ohio State, Matheney was enrolled at the College of Holy Cross. There he endured 40-plus hours of homework a week to meet the demands of a Holy Cross athlete. Matheney contributed his first two seasons as a Crusader, but suffered a season-ending injury during his sophomore season transferred to OSU for his junior season after tuition increased at Holy Cross. Coming from a school with an enrollment of 2,900 to the 55,000 at OSU has been a huge change, but one that Matheney appreciates. “There is less one-on-one time with the teachers, but I really like it: the classes, the environment, the atmosphere.” Classes have been Matheney’s main focus since he transferred, as he was not eligible to compete his first season as a Buckeye. Per NCAA rules, as a transfer student-athlete, Matheney was required to sit out his junior season. His senior season was his first opportunity to help the Buckeyes on the defensive line. These events have only fueled Matheney’s optimism, however. When asked how he stays even-keeled despite what is required of him as a student-athlete, he simply responds, “I don’t even think about it … I just do what I have to do.” Not only does he do what he has to do, he does more. As he strives to complete a history of art degree along with a computer science degree, he does the work required to make an impact for the Buckeyes, on and off the field. In 2009, Scout.com reported the OSU football team had a 62 percent graduation rate. With a genuine desire to be a Buckeye, a motivated attitude to graduate and a humbling presence, Matheney will increase the number of OSU’s graduating athletes and better the reputation OSU’s athletic department holds so dear.

Man United’s Jose Mourinho, gave a very detailed explanation about the struggle that his club goes through to sign the very best players. What Jose Mourinho explained this Friday during a Man United press conference ahead of the match at Southampton is worth analyzing, his club has struggled quite a bit to sign the very best players from other clubs recently. We recently found out about the negative response he got from Internazionale Milano’s midfielder, Ivan Perisic. But the Croatian is only one of many great examples that the Red Devils could talk about for hours, we can also bring up the case of Gareth Bale, the Real Madrid Welshman who rejected the Red Devils very publicly knowing that Jose Mourinho kept asking for his transfer to the club. The Portuguese manager knows that in order to win the titles that the clubs from Spain are currently owning, he has to buy the very best players who are available on the market. The problem is that getting some of the best talents that money can buy, has become increasingly difficult even if the clubs that could sell them don’t really have that much power to win titles.Mourinho just gave a very detailed explanation with examples that we need to analyze further here, he used Tottenham Hotspur as a perfect way to illustrate it because the Spurs are one of the clubs that have some of the biggest talents in English football but all of them are a forbidden fruit right now.The #MUFC Official App is the best place to follow Jose’s press conference — head there from 10:30 GMT!— Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 30, 2018When asked about United’s struggle to sign top players, Mourinho said: “It depends,” he said via Goal.“I will give you an example, that I hope is a good example. I hope you can interpret it in the right way.”“Is Manchester United by history, by its dimensions, bigger than Tottenham? With all the respect – Tottenham is an amazing club – I think everybody would say yes.”“Can we go to Tottenham and buy their best players? No – because they don’t sell or because they are so powerful that they can say no.”“A few years ago, who was Tottenham’s best player? Michael Carrick. A few years later, who was the best player? Berbatov.”“Can we go now there and bring Harry Kane, Dele Alli, [Christian] Eriksen, [Heung-min] Son? Can we go there and bring the guys here? No.”Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…“So, who is more powerful now. Them or us? Football changes. It is more difficult to buy players of a high, high, high level.”“The clubs are more powerful and don’t want to sell. Before, the smaller clubs, they were almost begging the big clubs, ‘get my best player, I need to sell. Please, you are powerful, buy my best player’.”“At this moment, they don’t want to sell. It is more difficult to make the team better and stronger with buying.”“Unless you do what some clubs do, and for some reason, they can do and others cannot. Which is, I need a right back and a left back. Send away the ones you have and buy four at the same time.”“It is difficult, so we do what we can. Last season was fantastic to finish second and we are fighting hard. I know we have to do better than we are doing.”“But one thing is to do better and another thing is to try and compare ourselves with what Manchester United was in the past. Not just because Manchester United was fantastic, but because there was a big difference to the others and, at the moment, it is not like that,” he concluded.✊ We are United.— Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 30, 2018It’s still unclear if the Red Devils will go after any players during this winter transfer window, but they should at least consider it due to the current climate within the squad. It’s safe to say that Manchester United is too far from being the best club in English football, Jose Mourinho grew increasingly frustrated with his several failed attempts to buy the players he wanted for his new project and had to resign himself with the idea of getting his second or third option on the lists that he provided to Ed Woodward.Even if the Red Devils are the wealthiest club in the world, they still refuse to pay too much money for any player and they will likely remain with the same philosophy after the experience that brought them signing Paul Pogba a couple of years ago. Thanks to Tottenham, Jose Mourinho’s biggest excuse is now irrelevant #mufc https://t.co/RDpEYDCICE— Man United News (@ManUtdMEN) November 27, 2018Which top player would you like to see playing for Manchester United? Former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes it’s critical that the club retain Eden Hazard as he’s now the Premier League’s best playerThe Belgium international has been in great form this season for Chelsea with an impressive 12 goals and 10 assists in 24 league appearances.Hazard’s strong form has helped enable Chelsea to remain in the top four of the Premier League, despite strong competition from Manchester United and Arsenal. This has also helped keep Real Madrid interested in signing him with Hazard yet to announce whether or not he will sign a new contract at Chelsea.Blues coach Maurizio Sarri announced last week that he will not stand in Hazard’s way if he decides to end his seven-season stay at Stamford Bridge. But Cole, who played alongside Hazard at French side Lille OSC during the 2011/12 campaign, believes it’s “important” Chelsea find a way to retain him.“I said when he signed that he would be the greatest player the club has ever had and I still stand by that,” Cole told the Daily Mirror.“I still believe that. My teammates and my colleagues have been amazing but Eden is the best player I’ve ever worked with.Chelsea hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham hopes for more Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Tammy Abraham hopes this season will be his big breakthrough at Chelsea after firing his first hat-trick for the club in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Wolves.“When you look at what he’s done in the short space of time that he’s been there. He’s been an unbelievable player. I think he’s the best player in the league and I think he’s a top, top player and it’s important the club keep hold of him.”He added: “I played with him when I was at Lille and he was being courted by all the top clubs in Europe and Harry Redknapp was talking to me about him because Tottenham wanted him.“Everyone wanted him – Man United, Man City and I just felt Chelsea was the right home for him.“I told him if he wanted to win trophies which he has done and develop as a player. Originally scheduled to debut in 2018, JBL’s voice-controlled combo sound bar-streaming box is finally on sale for $400. The JBL Link Bar is a do-everything Frankenstein: an HDMI-connected sound bar that offers Google Assistant voice control in addition to streaming content via Google’s own Android TV system. Android TV is similar to the more popular Roku and Amazon Fire TV systems, with direct access to apps including Netflix, Hulu, ESPN and thousands more. The system is available on devices such as the Nvidia Shield and Sony smart TVs, but this is its first appearance built into a sound bar. The Link Bar appears to be based on the company’s earlier smart sound bar, the Link 300, which doesn’t offer video streaming. It has three 4K-compatible HDMI ports and an HDMI ARC output, plus it has built-in Chromecast for multiroom streaming from phones and Chrome browsers. The company also offers an optional subwoofer for $300.For those who don’t like the idea of having a live microphone in the house, the Link Bar also includes a feature called PrivacySwitch the company says will “ensure the highest level of security and privacy and leave hackers out of the house.” The Link Bar is late to the party, and at least two competing products offer compelling alternatives, though neither offers video streaming. The first is the Polk Command Bar, which was designed in conjunction with Amazon, incorporates Alexa and includes a subwoofer. The second is the Sonos Beam, which has both Alexa and Google Assistant plus the well-established Sonos ecosystem. Look out for a review of the JBL Link Bar in the near future. 1 18 Photos JBL Link Bar Review • JBL jams Google Assistant and Android TV into a sound bar Amazon Google Share your voice

Security personnel escort Sohel Rana, owner of the collapsed Rana Plaza building, after a court appearance in Dhaka on 29 August, 2017. Photo: AFPA Dhaka court on Tuesday jailed the Rana Plaza owner for three years for graft, the first of many charges laid against him after the garment factory complex collapsed in 2013 and killed more than 1,130 people.Sohel Rana was given the maximum three-year sentence by a special court in Dhaka for failing to declare his personal wealth to Bangladesh’s anti-graft commission, one of a series of charges brought after the disaster.“This is the first time he has been convicted and jailed,” prosecutor Salahuddin Eskander told AFP.Eskander said Rana, who faces four other charges including murder for his role in one of the world’s worst industrial tragedies, was in court for the verdict. He and 37 others could be sentenced to death if found guilty of murder over the factory complex’s collapse. But that trial has been delayed by appeals in the higher court.Rana was arrested just days after the accident at the border with India as he tried to flee Bangladesh. He became the nation’s public enemy number one in the aftermath of the disaster as survivors recounted being forced to enter the building to work despite complaining about cracks appearing in the walls.Rana and 17 others have also been charged with violating building codes when extending the six-storey structure by a further three floors. The illegal construction was blamed by investigators for the tragedy. His lawyer Faruque Ahmed told AFP he would appeal the verdict.“He was in custody when he was served the Anti Corruption Commission notice to submit his wealth statement. In the jail he was not given enough time to meet his lawyer or his family,” Ahmed told AFP.‘Cold-blooded murderer’The disaster prompted sweeping reforms in the garment sector, including new safety inspections and higher wages in the industry which employs around four million workers, mostly women.Bangladeshi activists welcomed the verdict against Rana, but urged prosecutors to fast-track a court date for his murder trial.“It has been four years since the tragedy, and still this trial has not begun in full swing,” Kalpona Akter, head of the Bangladesh Center for Worker Solidarity, told AFP.“He is a cold-blooded murderer. He forced workers to work in a death chamber.”Rana, who was linked with the ruling Awami League party, also faces a narcotics charge. The Rana Plaza disaster highlighted appalling safety problems in Bangladesh’s nearly $30 billion garment industry, the world’s second largest exporter after China’s.A host of Western retailers had clothing made at the complex’s five factories, including Italy’s Benetton, Spain’s Mango and the British low-cost chain Primark.Bangladesh’s anti-graft agency has accused Rana of purchasing property with suspicious funds. The agency is also investigating his parents for allegedly hoarding more than $2 million in ill-gotten gains.
