No place for Lambert

first_imgMany-time winning Jamaica captaiN Tamar Lambert, has been omitted from the Jamaica Scorpions squad for their sixth-round WICB First-Class Tournament clash away to the Leeward Islands Hurricanes next weekend.Lambert, who was overlooked for Jamaica’s first two matches of the season, but was recalled following a series of poor batting performances, participated in the team’s third, fourth and fifth encounters. However, following equally low batting returns on his part, as well as subpar batting during the WICB Super50 one-day tournament in Trinidad and Tobago last month, the national selection panel has decided to look past the 34-year-old once more. The 13-member squad, which departs next week, includes seven specialist batsmen. This follows the return of young West Indies strokemaker, Jermaine Blackwood, and the recall of Kirk Edwards and Shacaya Thomas.Edwards, following average returns in the team’s first four outings, missed their fifth match due to injury, while Thomas, the tournament’s second highest runscorer two seasons ago and one of the outstanding batsmen at the preseason national trials, is yet to make an appearance this season. The Jamaica Scorpions, respective fourth- and fifth-place finishers for the past two seasons, are currently third in the six-team standings with five rounds of matches to go.With a record of three wins and two defeats, they have 53 points, 10 less that Barbados Pride, with runaway leaders and title-holders Guyana Jaguars on top with 85.Jamaica Scorpions squad: Paul Palmer Jr (captain), John Campbell, Kirk Edwards, Jermaine Blackwood, AndrÈ McCarthy, Devon Thomas, Carlton Baugh Jr, David Bernard Jr, Nikita Miller, Damion Jacobs, Sheldon Cottrell, Marquino Mindley, Shacaya Thomas.last_img read more

Twitter Acquires Geolocation Service Mixer Labs: Plans to Enhance Its Geotagging API

first_imgRelated Posts Guide to Performing Bulk Email Verification Tags:#news#twitter#web The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videos A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Auditcenter_img Twitter just announced that it has acquired Mixer Labs, the company behind GeoAPI.com. GeoAPI is a service that allows developers to easily add geolocation data to their apps. Twitter just launched its own geotagging API a few weeks ago. Even though a number of mobile and desktop Twitter apps like Seesmic Web and Birdfeed support Twitter’s geotagging API, only a very small number of users are currently making use of this feature.According to Twitter founder Ev Williams, the company “will be looking at how to integrate the work Mixer Labs has done with the Twitter API in useful ways that give developers behind geo-enabled apps like Birdfeed, Seesmic Web, Foursquare, Gowalla, Twidroid, Twittelator Pro and other powerful new possibilities.” It’s important to note that the Mixer Labs GeoAPI is not tied to Twitter. GeoAPI offers tools like a reverse geocoder that can take GPS coordinates and turn them into human readable information and a service that can find media files and status updates related to a specific place on Flickr, Twitter or YouTube. Mixer Labs also offers an iPhone SDK. Judging from Twitter’s announcement, the GeoAPI will continue to work while Twitter figures out how to best integrate its current geotagging API with Mixer Labs’ GeoAPI. POSCO willing to return land

first_imgThe Odisha government said on Saturday that POSCO had requested it to take back the land acquired for a mega steel plant that the South Korean steel major proposed more than a decade ago.“Recently, POSCO authorities sent a communication to the Odisha government. Since POSCO had not started construction as per the conditions in the lease agreement, the company requested the government to take the land back,” State Industries Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said here. “Subsequent to receiving the letter from POSCO, we secured the Chief Minister’s approval to keep the land parcel in the land bank being created for setting up future industrial projects.”The company had signed a memorandum of understanding with the State government in June 2005 to set up a plant with a capacity of 12 million tonnes a year and a captive port at an estimated investment of ₹52,000 crore near the port town of Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district. It was then the largest FDI received by the country.People’s protestThe people, however, protested against the acquisition of 4,004 acres of land, saying that the industrial project would spell doom for their livelihood based on betel farming and fishing. The curtains fell on the much-hyped project when a Central amendment to the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act in January 2015 necessitated POSCO to go through the auction route to get iron ore mines. Since there was uncertainty in securing a captive mine, the company started folding up its operation in the State.By that time, the State government had transferred 1,723.78 acres of land to POSCO through the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. With this, one of the most intensely fought land acquisition processes came to an end. During the decade-long protest, several hundred villagers were arrested by the police for blocking land acquisition. Over 1,200 non-bailable warrants were pending for execution in the project area. As the process of acquisition slowed down, the police stopped executing warrants.last_img read more

Navios Partners to Buy 14 Rickmers Boxships

first_imgzoom Greek shipowner and operator Navios Maritime Partners has agreed to acquire the entire container fleet consisting of fourteen ships from Rickmers Maritime for about USD 113 million.“We anticipate acquiring five 4,250 TEU vessels on May 15, 2017. These vessels are employed on charters that have staggered expirations in 2018 and early 2019 at a net daily charter rate of USD 26,850,” Angeliki Frangou, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Navios Partners, said. The average age of the fleet, which consists of eleven 4,250 TEU containerships and three 3,450 TEU vessels, is 9.5 years.“Our operating platform was attractive to the Trust and its lending banks because of our disciplined technical and commercial management and favorable operating costs. This acquisition demonstrates our ability to source proprietary deals, and we are continuing to seek exposure to the container sector,” Frangou continued.Navios Partners said that the acquisition, subject to a number of conditions, is being financed through a USD 20 million equity investment by Navios Partners and a secured loan facility under discussion. The company plans to acquire these vessels though a wholly owned subsidiary, Navios Partners Containers Inc., which will be an unrestricted subsidiary as defined in the credit agreement dated March 14, 2017, for the shipowner’s term loan B facility.Earlier in April, Rickmers Trust Management, the trustee-manager of Rickmers Maritime, said that its business would be wound up, as the company’s efforts to reach an agreement with lenders to restructure existing loans fell through. The trust was given until April 15 by the HSH Syndicate, comprising HSH Nordbank and DBS Bank, to come up with a new restructuring plan which would ensure a higher level of total recoveries than under a winding up of the trust.Rickmers Maritime said that the operation of the vessels in question is expected to remain unaffected by the proposed sale.last_img read more
