Man United’s Jose Mourinho, gave a very detailed explanation about the struggle that his club goes through to sign the very best players. What Jose Mourinho explained this Friday during a Man United press conference ahead of the match at Southampton is worth analyzing, his club has struggled quite a bit to sign the very best players from other clubs recently. We recently found out about the negative response he got from Internazionale Milano’s midfielder, Ivan Perisic. But the Croatian is only one of many great examples that the Red Devils could talk about for hours, we can also bring up the case of Gareth Bale, the Real Madrid Welshman who rejected the Red Devils very publicly knowing that Jose Mourinho kept asking for his transfer to the club. The Portuguese manager knows that in order to win the titles that the clubs from Spain are currently owning, he has to buy the very best players who are available on the market. The problem is that getting some of the best talents that money can buy, has become increasingly difficult even if the clubs that could sell them don’t really have that much power to win titles.Mourinho just gave a very detailed explanation with examples that we need to analyze further here, he used Tottenham Hotspur as a perfect way to illustrate it because the Spurs are one of the clubs that have some of the biggest talents in English football but all of them are a forbidden fruit right now.The #MUFC Official App is the best place to follow Jose’s press conference — head there from 10:30 GMT!— Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 30, 2018When asked about United’s struggle to sign top players, Mourinho said: “It depends,” he said via Goal.“I will give you an example, that I hope is a good example. I hope you can interpret it in the right way.”“Is Manchester United by history, by its dimensions, bigger than Tottenham? With all the respect – Tottenham is an amazing club – I think everybody would say yes.”“Can we go to Tottenham and buy their best players? No – because they don’t sell or because they are so powerful that they can say no.”“A few years ago, who was Tottenham’s best player? Michael Carrick. A few years later, who was the best player? Berbatov.”“Can we go now there and bring Harry Kane, Dele Alli, [Christian] Eriksen, [Heung-min] Son? Can we go there and bring the guys here? No.”Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…“So, who is more powerful now. Them or us? Football changes. It is more difficult to buy players of a high, high, high level.”“The clubs are more powerful and don’t want to sell. Before, the smaller clubs, they were almost begging the big clubs, ‘get my best player, I need to sell. Please, you are powerful, buy my best player’.”“At this moment, they don’t want to sell. It is more difficult to make the team better and stronger with buying.”“Unless you do what some clubs do, and for some reason, they can do and others cannot. Which is, I need a right back and a left back. Send away the ones you have and buy four at the same time.”“It is difficult, so we do what we can. Last season was fantastic to finish second and we are fighting hard. I know we have to do better than we are doing.”“But one thing is to do better and another thing is to try and compare ourselves with what Manchester United was in the past. Not just because Manchester United was fantastic, but because there was a big difference to the others and, at the moment, it is not like that,” he concluded.✊ We are United.— Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 30, 2018It’s still unclear if the Red Devils will go after any players during this winter transfer window, but they should at least consider it due to the current climate within the squad. It’s safe to say that Manchester United is too far from being the best club in English football, Jose Mourinho grew increasingly frustrated with his several failed attempts to buy the players he wanted for his new project and had to resign himself with the idea of getting his second or third option on the lists that he provided to Ed Woodward.Even if the Red Devils are the wealthiest club in the world, they still refuse to pay too much money for any player and they will likely remain with the same philosophy after the experience that brought them signing Paul Pogba a couple of years ago. Thanks to Tottenham, Jose Mourinho’s biggest excuse is now irrelevant #mufc https://t.co/RDpEYDCICE— Man United News (@ManUtdMEN) November 27, 2018Which top player would you like to see playing for Manchester United? Former Chelsea star Joe Cole believes it’s critical that the club retain Eden Hazard as he’s now the Premier League’s best playerThe Belgium international has been in great form this season for Chelsea with an impressive 12 goals and 10 assists in 24 league appearances.Hazard’s strong form has helped enable Chelsea to remain in the top four of the Premier League, despite strong competition from Manchester United and Arsenal. This has also helped keep Real Madrid interested in signing him with Hazard yet to announce whether or not he will sign a new contract at Chelsea.Blues coach Maurizio Sarri announced last week that he will not stand in Hazard’s way if he decides to end his seven-season stay at Stamford Bridge. But Cole, who played alongside Hazard at French side Lille OSC during the 2011/12 campaign, believes it’s “important” Chelsea find a way to retain him.“I said when he signed that he would be the greatest player the club has ever had and I still stand by that,” Cole told the Daily Mirror.“I still believe that. My teammates and my colleagues have been amazing but Eden is the best player I’ve ever worked with.Chelsea hat-trick hero Tammy Abraham hopes for more Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Tammy Abraham hopes this season will be his big breakthrough at Chelsea after firing his first hat-trick for the club in Saturday’s 5-2 win at Wolves.“When you look at what he’s done in the short space of time that he’s been there. He’s been an unbelievable player. I think he’s the best player in the league and I think he’s a top, top player and it’s important the club keep hold of him.”He added: “I played with him when I was at Lille and he was being courted by all the top clubs in Europe and Harry Redknapp was talking to me about him because Tottenham wanted him.“Everyone wanted him – Man United, Man City and I just felt Chelsea was the right home for him.“I told him if he wanted to win trophies which he has done and develop as a player. We are bound to give the money as he submitted the required documents.”When asked, the bank manager said Setaful along with car, a few companions and sacks came to the bank and took the money.District accounts officer Sirajul Islam also denied the allegation.”I have properly verified the cheque. He was supposed to give details after the disbursement of compensation money. The district accounts office can’t approve the cheque.”Dhaka divisional commissioner M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury, in a letter, asked the public administration ministry to take departmental, legal and administrative actions against this officer.”I have never seen such a dreadful and dishonest person in my whole career. And no doubt policymakers will play a vital role in encouraging and expecting all of us to find a way forward. If we don’t, a change in the law that will lag behind technology and lead to litigation is inevitable.Fixing the DMCA for the modern age will require leadership from both the creative and tech communities – who each have much to gain from action and much to lose if we sit back or spiral into conflict. To their credit, the Internet Association has been open to discussing solutions. So let’s do it. Consider this an invitation. In a summer where “Harmony Hall” is topping the charts and the Avengers are assembling one last time, what are we waiting for? Whether it’s two-part harmony or a 100-member orchestra, some of the greatest music happens when people come together.Policymaking works the same way. Last year, music and tech came together to support the Music Modernization Act (MMA) – a powerful new law that guarantees fair pay for legacy artists on digital radio, boosts royalties for songwriters, and updates the music publishing system for the digital age. Creators and tech companies haven’t always been “all for one, and one for all,” but we realized we needed to link arms to get results. Now there’s a new opportunity to build on that success. The U.S. Copyright Office will soon release its much-anticipated study on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s “safe harbor” provisions – rules put in place over 20 years ago to deal with the problem of online piracy. The report will raise tough issues – and creators and tech will have to decide: do we retreat to our industry corners or join forces once again and try to get something meaningful done? To me, the choice is as obvious as it was for Jake and Elwood: we should be getting the MMA band back together. There’s no question the DMCA hasn’t kept up with the times. It was intended to foster cooperation between internet platforms (at the time this meant bulletin boards and services like AOL) and the creative industry to prevent piracy of creative works in exchange for legal immunity. But piracy remains a major issue and has evolved into new forms. In a twisted way, the DMCA was interpreted in a way that discouraged cooperation between creators and tech platforms by removing incentives to do so. But in the wake of rising fears over tech platforms’ impact on speech, politics, safety and culture, global pressure on platforms to act responsibly to create a healthier online environment has never been more intense. Absent real voluntary change, the pressure on government to more powerfully regulate Internet companies is only going to increase. To me, the idea that creators and tech would somehow be at odds in this space has never made much sense. The public’s thirst for creative works is a major driver of revenue and success for internet companies. Today, seven out of ten of the biggest accounts on Twitter and nine out of the top ten videos on YouTube are music creators. A smartphone without music or video might as well have a rotary dial.Likewise, we need tech – streaming now accounts for 75% of recorded music revenues in the U.S. And social media has played an indispensable role in strengthening the bond between artists and their fans. There are now plenty of incentives for all of us to work together to sustain and grow the entire ecosystem going forward. Now is the time for us to come together to fix the DMCA – and it doesn’t have to require legislation. The DMCA already allows creators and tech providers to negotiate industry standards to protect creative works, but that mechanism has been mostly dormant since the law’s passage. If we reach consensus, it can be immediately implemented under existing law. That’s invaluable in a world where technology changes faster than the law can keep up. ‘It doesn’t exist! No one knows about him here!’ I mumbled to myself as I looked around the bookstore at Frankfurt airport. The train to Wuerzburg and then the shop at the university library. Deliriously happy. Yes. The on-campus store had F Scott Fitzgerald, William Shakespeare, George RR Martin, Robert Galbraith and before I could grant them intellectual snobbery – there was a Stephanie Meyer too and I think I spotted a Nicholas Sparks. No Chetan Bhagat. I had left that horror back in Delhi and didn’t get assaulted with people reading it in Dubai. Also Read – ‘Playing Jojo was emotionally exhausting’‘No one’s heard of him here!’ I exclaimed, thoroughly confusing the guy who was helping me around with my registration process (which took one hour – Indian colleges take note please!). I of course then had to explain to him who this guy was and why we (the wannabe intellectuals) love to hate him. Over schnitzel and fries (I had to cliché it up a bit) I told this unsuspecting gentleman about Mr Bhagat. About Five Point Someone, Three Mistakes of My Life, 2 States, One Night at a Call Centre and finally halting at Half Girlfriend. I also pointed out that the movies were exponentially much better than the books and simply because those had very little to do with the author. Just as one of the ‘Indian’ guys here called Honey Singh the Indian Snoop Dogg, I tried in vain to find a worthy equivalent. Also Read – Leslie doing new comedy special with NetflixAnd that got me thinking. Chetan Bhagat is wholly and thankfully only an Indian phenomenon. The ‘appeal’ of his Rs 195 do not cross over borders unless someone takes the book with them on an international flight. Maybe we should try adding it to the list of illegal items like knives and explosives.Stephanie Meyer, EL James crossed the Atlantic. Bhagat has not made it across a few countries, yet. And I will call this a good thing. While Bhagat has managed to capture an incredible reading audience and has an enviable business model well in place, he has people who read him to loathe him and he has people who read him and go – ‘Oh yes! He knows, he knows how I feel!’ *Sniff* As an author he has played this game better than most of his colleagues. Neel Mukherjee cannot boast of such sales figures, he perhaps never will. He writes about college canteen issues that only we Indians can gorge on to the point of getting sick. Some regurgitate that into rants such as these, some gorge some more. The issues are uniquely and obstinately rooted to the soil – Bhagat takes on IIT, IIM, inter-cultural marriage, 2002 Gujarat riots, Call Centres and in his latest book what can be best described as ‘Biharis-do-not-know-English-and do-not-care-to-learn-till-Bill Gates-can-come-to-save-a-village-school’ aka ‘Wanting-to-date- a-Delhi-rich-is-a-bitch’. Not the communist burden, neither the diasporic problem and never the brave new world. Bhagat is perhaps ill-equipped to take on tropes that matter and it works very well because we, in our domestic help accelerated world, don’t allow too much mind space to such world issues. Prices of onions are more intrinsic and real.Unfortunate. But look at the wonders it did for Bhagat. It is the whole classic ‘us and them’ case which will have the intellectuals ruing the success of this man while the others buy his book anyway.Over the last five years in India, we have had the metro reads phenomenon rearing its ugly head. Describing a series of books that can be read over an hour or a little more (a little less than the time needed to travel from Noida to Dwarka) while one travels. These books aren’t Booker or Pulitzer worthy – never will be. They do not require an ‘intelligent’ mind, they are just in your hands to distract you from the sardine crowd and the lack of deodorant.Bhagat is more the Indian Railways and domestic flight read. Giving the man his due, Bhagat got a huge chunk of the population to read, he got them interested in books again and while it is horrible that these people read (and enjoy) this level of story, plot and language – it is also commendable that he managed this – Rupa owes this man a good few limbs. However, driving the rant home – talking Neil Gaiman and Umberto Ecco with ‘colleagues’ in the department, I sighed in relief that they will not have to fight the battle of bad authors on this continent quite yet and they would not equate Indian writings with the Bhagat phenomenon. But winter is coming. I could tell them his books are excellent replacements for wood.
