Zanzibar Tourism Promotion Center (ZTPC) recently organised an exclusive meet for the media with Mahmoud Kombo, Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism, Government of Zanzibar and his delegation to launch Zanzibar’s (Tanzania) 2019 promotional campaign in India.At the promotional campaign launch event, talking exclusively to Travel News Digest, Kombo said, “My main mission is to create awareness of the existence of Zanzibar and to increase the number of tourists. Historically, culturally and religiously Zanzibar and India are connected very well, but in the tourism front, we haven’t been doing very well.”Zanzibar received about 4,000 Indian arrivals in 2017 and about 2,800 in the first half of 2018, revealed Kombo. “A tourist spends approximately four and a half to five nights in Zanzibar and spends an amount of USD 150 per day on an average.”Oman Air, Emirates, FlyDubai, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines are the airlines that fly from India to Tanzania.It is visa on arrivals for all the Indians travelling to Tanzania with an amount of USD 50.Speaking about the promotional and marketing strategies to attract Indians to Zanzibar, Kombo explained that they are doing a multifaceted approach in the Indian market, one of them being the film industry. He explained, “We are doing a lot of discussions with the producers, filmmakers, actors etc. and will provide them special facilitation for filming in Zanzibar and the government is going to provide full support.”ZTPC is also collaborating with many travel agents in India and making the destination’s presence on social media by posting images and videos as you believe what you see, quipped Kombo.Kombo also expressed his desire to participate in at least six to eight travel fairs in India.ZTPC is targeting leisure, MICE and honeymoon travellers from India.
